Nakamise Shopping Street and Senso-ji Temple: Where Your Asakusa Walk Begins

From HOTEL TAVINOS Asakusa, it’s just a few minutes on foot to Nakamise Shopping Street, where more than 80 stalls offer souvenirs and traditional local treats. The lively atmosphere makes it an ideal start to your Asakusa adventure. Shops start to open at 9:00 am, and it’s a perfect time to visit without getting too overwhelmed by the crowds.
Useful Tip 💡
Side streets around Nakamise Shopping Street are often quieter, even during peak hours, and are worth exploring.

After strolling through Nakamise Shopping Street, the iconic Kaminarimon Gate of Senso-ji Temple is a must-stop for memorable photos before moving on. Just directly opposite the gate stands the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, where you can pick up maps and travel tips, and enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Asakusa from its free, open-air observation deck on the eighth floor.
Azumabashi Bridge: Sumida River, the Asahi Beer Hall and TOKYO SKYTREE Views

After exploring the lively and vibrant Nakamise Shopping Street, leave the crowds behind and head toward the Sumida River. Azumabashi Bridge, just steps away from exits 4 or 5 of Tokyo Metro Asakusa Station, is one of the most viral photo spots in Tokyo where you can capture a striking trio: the golden Asahi Group Headquarters Building (Asahi Beer Tower), Asahi Group Hall (Super Dry Hall) with its recognizable golden flame sculpture on top, and TOKYO SKYTREE towering in the distance.
From here, take a walk along the Sumida River toward Sumida Park which stretches along the riverbanks. The riverside path provides a peaceful contrast to the fast-paced energy of the historic area.

The clear, unobstructed view of the city skyline across the broad span of the river and the wide, well-maintained promenade are ideal for leisure strolls, family outings, and morning jogs.
Scenic views of bridges connecting to the opposite side of the Sumida River and river boats passing by, along with plenty of seating areas and patches of greenery, invite contemplative pauses, letting visitors linger and take in the surrounding landscape. All of this offers an opportunity to experience Tokyo from a different side.
Seasonal changes are also worth noting: cherry blossoms in spring, vibrant autumn leaves, and sparkling illuminations that brighten winter nights.
Sakurabashi Bridge: The Only Pedestrian Bridge on the Sumida River

There are quite a lot of bridges spanning over the Sumida River. While most of them are open to both vehicles and pedestrians, Sakurabashi Bridge is the only one exclusively designed for foot traffic, making it safe and comfortable for walking. It’s a quiet and pleasant spot to visit in the morning.
Sakurabashi Bridge connects Sumida Park that stretches across two administrative districts: Taito and Sumida. It was constructed in 1985 and is known for its distinctive X-shaped structure.
As its name suggests, this bridge is also is one of the best local spots for viewing sakura, or cherry blossoms, in spring. From the center of the bridge, you can enjoy an open, unobstructed view of two riverbanks lined with the soft pink of blooming cherry trees.
